FEBRUARY 24, 2007 - 9th BLACK MOUNTAIN MARATHON & MT. MITCHELL CHALLENGE
BLACK MOUNTAIN, NC

February 24th runners from all over the southeast converge in the town of Black Mountain for the annual Black Mountain Marathon and Mt. Mitchell challenge. The races fill up early and have been closed for several months to contestants. The races are limited to around two hundred contestants. APRIL 13th - 14th, 2007 - EARTH DAY CELEBRATION
CITY-COUNTY PLAZA, ASHEVILLE, NC

Planning is in the works to make Asheville's 2007 Earth Day celebration the largest in Western North Carolina after a hiatus in 2006 due to ongoing construction at City-County Plaza.

Ticket and beer sales will benefit local environmental groups.

APRIL 7th - MAY 20th, 2007 - FESTIVAL OF FLOWERS
BILTMORE ESTATE, ASHEVILLE, NC

Spring arrives at Biltmore Estate with thousands of tulips, daffodils, azaleas and dogwoods, celebrated by weekend music, dance and performances. Blacksmiths, farmers and woodworkers offer demonstrations on Saturdays & Sundays.

APRIL 28, 2007 - PIONEER DAY
OLD FORT, NC

Annual celebration of mountain heritage. The one-day festival features mountain music in the amphitheater, craft demonstrations such as weaving, black smithing, and pottery turning, "Hit or Miss" engine displays and vendors displaying and selling their wares. All day; Mountain Gateway Museum, Old Fort. Highly recommended, particularly for families (alcohol free event).

APRIL 28, 2007 - FIRE ON THE MOUNTAIN BLACKSMITH FESTIVAL
SPRUCE PINE, NC (Locust Street)

10AM - 4PM. Live demonstrations by well-known blacksmiths such as Bea Hensley, Elizabeth Brim. Vendors, hands-on opportunities,
food, music and a Blacksmith Art Exhibition at the Toe River Arts Council.

MAY 11th - 13th, 2007 - LAKE EDEN ARTS FESTIVAL (LEAF)
BLACK MOUNTAIN, NC

The 3 day Lake Eden Arts Festival brings together musicians, artists and dancers from many cultures each spring and autumn in a fantastic setting at the former site of Black Mountain College. Fall dates are October 19th - 21st, 2007.

JUNE 8th - 10th, 2007 - TOE RIVER SPRING STUDIO TOUR
 SPRUCE PINE, CELO, BAKERSVILLE, PENLAND, LITTLE SWITZERLAND, NC

Legendary driving tour of the arts hotspot of the Toe River Valley at the base of Mt. Mitchell and the Black Mountains. Artists open their studios and homes in this beautiful valley to the public twice a year.

JUNE 11, 2007 - ASSAULT ON MT. MITCHELL
SPARTANBURG, SC - MT. MITCHELL, NC

Grueling bike ride beginning in Spartanburg, SC and ending at Mt. Mitchell (highest point east of the Mississippi), on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The Assault is just over a 100 mile ride with the route beginning on Sugar Hill Road in SC and ending on NC 80.
